Build vs Buy vs Partner: The Decision Framework
Technology leaders can build internally, buy a product, or work with an applied AI partner. Building can maximize control but requires the organization to own staffing, integration, evaluation, security, and operations. Buying can shorten initial setup when the product matches the workflow, but fit and portability need to be tested. A partner can add implementation capacity while the customer retains responsibility for requirements and acceptance. Compare the options using the same criteria: workflow fit, internal ownership, integration effort, security review, operating model, total cost, portability, and evidence from a bounded evaluation. No option guarantees a particular deployment timeline or outcome.
Planning a Phase-Gated Deployment
A deployment plan should be phase-gated rather than tied to a universal calendar. Discovery maps the workflow, integration boundaries, risk classes, owners, and measurable acceptance criteria.
